The conversion of 14C-glycerol 3-phosphate to lysophosphatidic acid in the presence of palmityl coenzyme A is catalyzed by particles plus a soluble protein fraction from sonic extracts of Clostridium butyricum. This conversion is markedly stimulated by the addition of 10-5 M acyl carrier protein isolated from Escherichia coli.
