About the Cover

Cover Figure

The cover depicts the ability of odorants to stimulate the ERK/MAPK pathway in olfactory sensory neurons, leading to cAMP response element (CRE)-dependent gene transcription. CRE/LacZ transgenic reporter mice receiving a brief (2-min) exposure to the odorant citralva exhibit robust induction of -galactosidase expression in a discrete region of the olfactory epithelium. These results suggest that peripheral olfactory neurons may possess the same properties of neuroplasticity associated with neurons of the CNS. Details can be found in the article by Walt and Storm, pages 2047-2052.2047.
