About the Cover
The cover figure shows that GD3 (NeuAc2-3Gal1-4Glc-ceramide) is sorted into cholesterol-laden lysosomes
in human fibroblasts. Cholesterol-depleted normal human fibroblasts incubated in low density lipoproteins (LDL) for 24 h were
immunostained for GD3 (green and stained with filipin blue for cholesterol localization.
GD3 immunostaining of the plasma membrane profiles the two cells. Intracellular GD3
co-localizes with lysosomal cholesterol as indicated by the aqua color resulting from the green and blue color merge.
Cellular uptake of LDL-cholesterol modulates the sorting of glycolipids between a Niemann-Pick C1-containing late
endosomal compartment and lysosomes. Details can be found in the article by Zhang et al.,
pages 3417-3425.3417.
