About the Cover

Cover Figure

On the cover, solution scattering reveals conformational transitions in the activation myosin light chain kinase by Ca2+-CaM. Ca2+ binding to CaM (aqua) results in a collapsed CaM bound to the Kinase (red) near the catalytic cleft and then translocation to a position remote from the cleft such that the kinase's autoinhibitory contacts are removed. Substrate binding (2+ATP plus peptide, blue) results in a reeorientation of CaM such that there are interactions between its N-terminal sequence and the kinase. Details can be found in the article by Krueger et al., pages 4535-4538.4535.
