The cover illustration shows the structure of the circular protein vhl-1 isolated from the leaves of the native Australian violet, Viola hederaceae. Plants produce a variety of host defense proteins, and this protein is a new member of the cyclotide family of proteins that have the unique feature of a head-to-tail cyclized protein backbone. The protein has potential applications in drug design and has anti-HIV activity. For details see the article by Chen et al., pages 22395-22405.
