The cover illustrates the impairment of development of the social amoeba Dictyostelium discoideum caused by mutations in the cardiomyopathy loop of myosin II. Wild-type cells develop into mature fruiting bodies (red), but development of cells expressing myosin II with a single A400V mutation stops at tipped mounds (green), the second of five developmental stages. Capping of surface receptors and cytokinesis are also impaired. For details see the article by Liu et al., pages 26974-26983.
