About the Cover

Cover Figure

The cover shows three-dimensional acini of the mammary epithelial cell line MCF-10A. These images represent one acinus at different cross-sections with respect to the z-axis. At day 14, a single polarized cell layer surrounds a hollow lumen, a process of morphogenesis that requires both tightly regulated proliferation and apoptosis of the central matrix-detached cells. The TOPRO-3 stained acinus (blue) shows membranous localization of β-catenin (red). For details see the article by Brummer et al., pages 626–637.
