About the Cover

Cover Figure

On The Cover: The cover shows a filtered cryoelectron microscopic image of a mutant His-tagged connexin26 crystal lattice. Mutation of a threonine for an alanine at position 135 causes the gap junction channel to be locked into a functionally closed position and decreases the pore size when compared to the wild-type connexin26 intercellular channels. This image has been pseudo-colored so that white, yellow, and red represent regions of high mass density (protein) whereas low mass densities (ice, lipids) are blue and black. For details see the article by Beahm et al., pages 7994-8009.
