On The Cover: Structure of the Ca2+ regulatory site of the Na+-Ca2+ exchanger determined by x-ray crystallography. A cluster of four Ca2+ ions (silver spheres) are bound by several anionic residues in close proximity. The Na+-Ca2 exchanger is abundant in cardiac sarcolemma where it has an important physiological role. In the background is an isolated cardiac myocyte stained (green) with a monoclonal antibody to the Na+-Ca2+ exchanger. For details see the article by Nicoll et al., pages 21577–21581.
