On The Cover: Regulation of airway epithelial mucociliary clearance by extracellular ATP is critical for pulmonary host defense. To define the interplay of ATP release/metabolism and regulation of epithelial function, a luciferase chimera was bound to the well differentiated human bronchial cell surfaces through wheat germ agglutinin, shown here (red) to label the cilia and apical cell surfaces, and ATP concentrations assessed in real time (DIC, grayscale; nuclei, blue; magnification ×190). For details see the article by Okada et al., pages 22992–23002.
