On The Cover: The malarial parasite Plasmodium falciparum is transmitted by the bite of the anopheline mosquito. Falcipain-2 is a cysteine protease from P. falciparum that plays a critical role in the parasite life cycle by degrading proteins of the host erythrocyte, notably hemoglobin. The structural and functional characterization of falcipain-2 opens new avenues for the rational design of novel antimalarial drugs. For details see the article by Hogg et al., pages 25425–25437.
