On The Cover: The TSG-6-mediated transfer of heavy chains (HCs) from inter-α-inhibitor onto the polysaccharide hyaluronan stabilizes the expansion of the cumulus matrix, which is essential for ovulation and fertilization in mammals. The cover shows the crystal structure of the CUB module from human TSG-6 highlighting the Ca2+ ion (cyan) and Glu-183 side chain (green stick) that mediate the formation of HC·TSG-6 intermediates required for HC transfer. Analyses of TSG-6 mutants reveal that the transferase activity of TSG-6 drives cumulus expansion and stabilization of a hyaluronan-rich matrix (green) around the oocyte.
