On The Cover: Phosphatidylserine-calcium-phosphate complex is a key component of the nucleational core that induces mineral formation in growth plate matrix vesicles. It has also been observed in a variety of pathological calcifications ranging from tumors to atherosclerotic plaques. Molecular dynamic simulations now show how phosphatidylserine, calcium, and Pi interact during the formation of a nucleationally competent lipid-Ca2+-Pi complex.
